What is Article 10?
Certain tortoise species are protected under CITES Annex A regulations. In the UK, it is illegal to sell these commercially without a "Transaction Specific Certificate" (TSC) issued by APHA/DEFRA.
Which species need it?
- Hermann's Tortoise (Testudo hermanni)
- Spur-thighed Tortoise (Testudo graeca)
- Marginated Tortoise (Testudo marginata)
- Egyptian Tortoise (Testudo kleinmanni)
- Indian Star (Geochelone elegans)
The "Yellow Paper"
The seller must physically hand over this yellow certificate when you buy the tortoise. The certificate number on the paper must match the microchip in the tortoise (if applicable).
